Agrasen Ki Baoli, New Delhi (Haunted Place) – History | Directions | Timings

What if I tell you that once upon a time there was a stepwell which used to hypnotize people to commit suicide in it? A stepwell (Baoli) which was full of black water and was built in the era of Mahabharta and rebuilt and modified in the 14th century by Aggarwal community and IT STILL EXISTS!!! There is no water but the step well is still there.

If you love to explore historical places which have not been tampered by the government, you must visit Agrasen Ki Baoli in New Delhi. (also known as Ugrasen Ki Baoli).

There was a time when this place used to be full of water.....which was black in colour.

Timings of Agrasen Ki Baoli

There are many articles on the internet which has different timings for this place which is completely misleading. So I actually went to this place to get the right timings. The right timings of Agrasen Ki Baoli are from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm. It opens at 8.30am in the morning till 5.00pm in the evening and post 5.30 pm, there is a security guard who would literally push you out of this place. Just kidding but yeah at times he does get irritated.

He is the one guarding the place. He is the one who sleeps at this place..Well he surely has some stories to share with us.

4 Things to do in AULI

If you have a thing for snow, if you love chilly weather and if you have plans to go to Switzerland but your bank balance is not agreeing with you, well there is a place which is full of crystal white snow with astonishing scenic beauty – AULI. I know you all have a list of places to visit once in a lifetime..my suggestion...you better write Auli in it..WHY ??? Here are the 4 reasons to write AULI in your list -

1) Skiing - Out of the all the sports, Skiing is one thing which is difficult to even see in India and Auli is one place where you can actually experience it. The season for skiing in Auli is Late December to March. (If you are going to Auli just for Skiing, do confirm the availability of skiing activities).

2) Trekking - When people ask me, why do you spend so much time in travelling in your trips ? I say one thing...'I meet myself while travelling' Have you ever experienced such thing ?? NO??? GO TREK IN AULI...You will fall in love with the purity of this place.

Trekking Options - a)  Auli to Gorson (7 km)
                                b) Gorson to Tali (6 km)
                                c) Kuari Pass to Khulara (12 km)
                                d) Khulara - Tapovan (9 km)

 3) Hanuman Temple - There is a small Hanuman Temple near Auli which has connection with Ramayana. It is said that when younger brother of Lord Rama, Laxman got injured in the war with Indrajit. Hanuman was ordered by Lord Rama to get a particular herb (sanjeevani) to cure Laxman and on the way to sanjeevani parbat, Hanuman took rest in Auli before resuming his journey to Himalayas. Whether you are religious or not I think it is a nice place to visit.

4) Cable Car - One of the best things of Auli - cable car. It's like seeing heaven from the top. The cable car service is available from Joshimath to Auli which will take 20 to 25 minutes. If you are going in winters, you will see some amazing sights from cable car. They charge Rs 400 to 500 per person which is completely worth for such a mind blowing experience.

So that's it....make up your mind, pack your bags and go to Auli...you would surely fall in love with it.
